This past week a baggage screener was accused of stealing $5,000 from a traveler’s jacket at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The traveler placed his jacket with the rest of his belongings on the X-ray belt without any problems. It wasn’t until later that he discovered that someone had taken the $5,000 from his jacket. When he informed the police department, the police started to investigate the situation.

The investigators reviewed the security cameras and noticed a woman removing the money from the jacket and hiding it in a latex glove. The female Transportation Security Administration then proceeded towards the bathroom. However, when the investigators questioned her, she did not have the money on her.

The investigator commented, “We assume she may have passed it off to an accomplice, so the investigation is continuing”.

The female in question was Alexandra Schmid, a 32- year-old woman who lived in Brooklyn, was arrested and charged for grand larceny in the third degree.

A TSA spokeswoman stated, “Typically, TSA moves to dismiss employees who are charged with theft. The actions of a few individuals in no way reflect on the outstanding job our 50,000 security officers do every day to ensure the security of the traveling public”.

Timeshare owners in San Diego should be on the lookout for timeshare resale scams. Transfer America discovered an article on UT San Diego about FBI warning San Diego residents to beware of pushy scammers who are cold-calling. These con artists are calling residents and promising them that they will resell their timeshares for an upfront fee. Many timeshare owners have already been conned into spending thousands of dollars with no results.

These companies will either call or email timeshare owners promising them that they can find a new owner to purchase or rent their timeshare property within a couple of months. Once the owner agrees to pay an upfront fee the company disappears with their money.

In San Diego there are more than 72,000 timeshare properties accounted for since July of last year. These companies are aiming to contacted every timeshare owner in hopes of conning them into purchasing their non-existent service. The FBI has announced some tips to prevent future timeshare owners from falling into the same timeshare resale scam.

First of all, timeshare owners should always be cautious of companies asking for an upfront fee. Second, timeshare owners need to fully read the fine print of all contracts or agreements. Lastly, always check the validity of a company by researching them online as well as ensuring they have a good standing with the Better Business Bureau.

This bill was created last October and has been undergoing legislative runs. The new bill has caught the attention of many and resorts such as the American Resort Development Association and the American Resort Development Association Resort Owners’ Coalition is now endorsing this bill. This bill, called the Timeshare Resale Accountability Act, is also being supported by Senator Andy Gardiner and Representative Eric Eisenaugle. Many hope that this bill will be able to prevent deceptive marketing practices and will protect all timeshare owners in the future.

Transfer America hopes that this bill will be able to stop some, if not all, timeshare scams out there. This bill will force companies to be more accountable and will hopefully end all deceptions.

There are many different kinds of sites out there that enable timeshare owners to list their timeshare in hopes of selling or renting it. Timesharemarketplace.com is a new website that helps connect timeshare owners and buyers who are interested in renting or buying a timeshare. However, like all the other timeshare websites, most people are only interested in renting out the timeshare and only for the weekend. This means that they will only offer to pay less than half of your asking price. Keeping a timeshare is extremely difficult, especially during this economic downfall. The purpose of renting out your timeshare is having the renter cover the yearly maintenance fee cost. Subsequently, if they refuse to pay full price for a weekend getaway, you’re stuck paying the rest.

Timeshares have become a huge liability in today’s world. The resorts are able to raise the yearly maintenance fees anytime they wish. Every year, timeshare owners are noticing the increase in their payments and what was once $200 a year has become $800. This is why timeshare owners are seeking a way out of their contract. However, sites like these are not the best choice (though they do help some).

Transfer America is a company that specializes in helping timeshare owners out of their timeshares once and for all. They provide in writing that guarantee and will help all pre-qualified timeshare owners escape. The difference between Transfer America and other resale companies is just that. Transfer America does not try to resell your timeshare. They are not promising that they have a buyer just waiting to purchase your timeshare. What they do is transfer the title out of your name so that you are no longer responsible for that timeshare. For more information, contact one of Transfer America’s representatives. Isn’t it time you were finally freed?

The new rule from Department of Transportation (DOT)requires all the airlines to include all government taxes and fees in their listing price. This has many airlines angered at the fact that this is hindering their ‘freedom of speech’ and have started fighting against this rule. One fine example is Spirit Airlines.

Spirit Airlines is currently contesting this rule in court and they recently launched a website in retaliation of this rule. KeepMyFaresLow.org has crossed the line when they posted up the headline: “Warning: New government regulations require us to HIDE taxes in your fares”.

Kevin Mitchell, the chairman of Business Travel Coalition, was extremely disappointed in this headline and commented, “With this ill-considered attack on DOT, Spirit Airlines has reached a new low and no doubt secured the poster-child crown for 2012 for misleading consumers”.

Ben Baldanza, the CEO of Spirit Airlines responded, “Our view is that fares should be transparent and clear and that you should know what you’re paying your airline and what you’re paying in taxes. If the government is successful with this, it’s coming to everything you buy — for cars, in restaurants, at big-box stores”.

Though airlines oppose this new rule, since last Thursday, they have to abide by it. The new prices posted on their websites are now including government fees and taxes. However, one thing airlines can do is provide a breakdown separating the government taxes and fees from the airlines.

Transfer America hopes that vacationers are well aware of these new rules when traveling this season.

Many are now aware of the different kinds of timeshare scams that are now present. Transfer America hopes to reach those who still have no knowledge of how to differentiate the difference between a real company and a scam. The first rule you must always remember is that if a company asks for an upfront fee or say that they have a buyer waiting to purchase your timeshare, they are usually scams. These companies have already scammed thousands of people out of their hard earned money and simply disappeared. Make sure you always research the company you are going to work with.

Some other tips that can save you time and money are working with a company who is licensed and those who do not charge an upfront fee for their services. In addition, you can always check the Better Business Bureau website to verify whether they are a legitimate company. Each company has a grade and a customer review section. By glancing through the site you will be able to determine if you wish to work with a certain company or not.

The ‘Timeshare Resale Accountability Act’ requires companies to reveal the names and addresses of potential timeshare buyers. This will help timeshare owners by helping them to better differentiate between a scam and a real company. However, just because a company discloses a name and address does not mean they are not a scam. Make sure you do your research before you make any commitments.

Timeshare fraud is one of the top customer complaints in Florida. Most of these scammers are situated in Palm Beach County and have already scammed thousands of timeshare owners. Though many con artists have been caught and convicted many were given plea deals.

Transfer America hopes that all timeshare owners have knowledge of how to prevent being scammed by a resale company. If you want out of your timeshare, Transfer America is a company that has helped many and still continues to do so.
