The United States Department of Labor has recovered over $800,000 in back wages for employees of Central Florida Investments, a Florida timeshare company. The investigation was conducted by the department’s Wage and Hour Division. Employees who scheduled tours of timeshare properties were paid under the minimum wage and overtime work was calculated incorrectly. The company also failed to pay commissions and maintain accurate timecard records.

Central Florida Investments operates timeshare resorts in multiple states, including Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia under the name Westgate Resorts. The investigation included all locations of the company.

In this period of economic downturn, companies in all industries are looking to cut costs, but they should still stay within legal bounds. The sale of timeshare property includes the costs of advertising and sales staff as well. Unscrupulous companies who pay their employees under the minimum wage just care about the bottom line and not the people they exploit.

The should refund my fees too. It’s a complete ripoff that has our hands tied to this day. We literally are forced to pay maintenance fees and there is no way out of it…
